The start is at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Semmering. From there, the long-distance hiking trail crosses Lower Austria, Styria, and Burgenland before reaching its destination, the historic old town of Kőszeg.
Two of the stages take you through the sunny side of Austria, passing Bernstein with its romantic castle and the Felsenmuseum. Impressive panoramas open up along the route, before you conquer the highest point in Burgenland, the Geschriebenstein at an altitude of 884 meters. A trail for recreational hikers that takes you through a surprisingly diverse range of landscapes and cultures.
Awaiting you on this route are promising panoramas, but above all interesting encounters with locals.
The hiking trail is at its most beautiful from May to October. Most of the route is easy to walk for anyone with an average level of fitness, although your lungs will need to work a bit harder on some short sections. Do not miss the culinary delicacies that can be tasted at the refreshment stops. But be careful, not every stage of the route has places to stop for food and drink.
Whether it’s the entire route or just individual stages, the Alpannonia is a hot tip for your next hiking trip! Guided tours and passenger/luggage transport options are also available.
